The National Authority for Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC), operating under the Ministry of Defence, successfully concluded its 3rd Capacity Building Programme on Chemical Emergency Management for firefighting personnel. Held from 25 to 27 June 2025 at the Fire and Rescue Training School in Wellawatta, the programme brought together 85 dedicated firefighters for an intensive three-day training session. The initiative focused on equipping frontline emergency responders with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in areas such as chemical agent detection, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and decontamination procedures. This specialized training programme is part of NACWC’s broader mission to enhance national readiness and ensure a rapid, coordinated response to chemical-related emergencies. By building the capacity of local firefighting units, NACWC is reinforcing Sri Lanka’s commitment to chemical safety and security. The Authority extends its sincere appreciation to all participating firefighters for their dedication and professionalism. Their active engagement underscores the importance of continuous training and collaboration in safeguarding communities from chemical threats.
