The 22nd Regional Meeting of National Authorities of States Parties in Asia took place in Uzbekistan from 29 to 31 May 2024 and representing Sri Lanka, Director of the National Authority for Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) under the Ministry of Defence Sri Lanka, Rear Admiral (Dr.) KWARI Ranasinghe, VSV, USP, psc participated for the event.

This regional meeting of National Authorities serves as a forum for States Parties to discuss needs, priorities, actions taken, and best practices in relation to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) at the national, subregional, and regional levels. Participants also discussed the capacity-development support provided within the framework of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) programme to strengthen cooperation between Asian regional member states on the Chemical Weapons Convention.

During the Programme, the director of the National Authority of Sri Lanka Delivered an informative presentation on the topic of “Preventing Illicit Transfers of Scheduled Chemicals in Sri Lanka” and availed opportunity for productive discussions with regional experts.
